okay i am trying this again. i deleted this post last night after having some image viewing problems. let me know if everything is looking ok people.
after some crazy issues i have this temporary thing set up as a website. i am trying out some new wordpress looks and hopefully will settle settle on something soon.
if anyone wants to see my art portfolio i put it on my flicker account . i’ll be updating that with new drawing and wrenchies pages periodically.
and in the next few days or weeks i am going to set up an etsy store or something that i can sell some art and comics on. but all of my comic pages will still be sold through the finest shop in canada, the beguiling.
. i am pretty excited about this. i did a ten-page story that features the girls from my myspace dark horse presents comic, and my vice magazine comic strip, and bird hurdler story and possibly in a future issue of studygroup12.
i think the book looks great. greg means did a smashing job as editor and publisher. i love the paper he uses and the whole look of the book.
here is the cool front cover by nate beaty

dave roche and nate beaty did the excellent main story in the book. i could relate to it having taken some long train trips myself. and i thought it was pretty hilarious and enjoyable. nate beaty is also the regular artist of the inside covers of papercutter. there is also a one pager in this ishsue by the spectacularjim rugg and brian maruca.
it is one of the my favorite anthologies and i am pretty excited to be a part of it.

another thing that i am pretty psyched for is the COMICS AT THE CROSSROADS: ART OF THE GRAPHIC NOVEL exhibition at the MARYHILL MUSEUM OF ART

the postcard is by the superb Jim Woodring.
the show goes from September 18 – November 15, 2010. most likely i will be at the opening reception which is on the 18th from 1 to 5 pm. i have never been to this museum before but i have heard it is really cool. i just need to find a ride out to the thing. i think it is like a two hour drive from portland in Goldendale, Washington.

i have heard tell that the conan pin-up i did will be in conan the cimmerian #25. i don’t think that is coming out until october. but GEOF DARROW is doing the Conan the Cimmerian #25 wraparound cover! there is also going to be a bunch of pinups from radical dudes like Jeffrey Brown, Dean Haspiel, Zack Soto, and Dan Hipp.

then there is the best american comics 2010 edition which is coming out this month.
i haven’t seen the book yet but i think there are some omega pages in there.
Neil Gaiman is the Editor on this one, as well as the regular editors Jessica Abeland Matt Madden.
thanks for reading on the computer. be seeing you.

my book signing on first thursday at floating world comicswent pretty swell.
i met some cool new people and saw a lot of good friends. working on my book non-stop leaves me little time for socializing so it was a delightful treat to see so many excellent folks. thanks everyone who showed up and thanks floating world comics for hosting it.
here is a pic from it.

hey gang, this is a heads up about my show at floating world comics 6 to 10 pm tomorrow or today depending on when you reading this.
either way it is on first thursday, June 3rd at
floating world comics, 20 NW 5th Ave #101, in beautiful downtown portland, oregon.
here is my poster for the show

go here for the press release on the floating world site.
also i thought it worthy of mentioning again that the pages from the pop gun war preview are on-line at the excellent arthur magazine.
thanks jason.
i hope all you portland people can make it but i can understand if you don’t want to brave the rain. i don’t get out much myself these days. but it would be great to see everyone. it is the official book release party for the limited edition chain letter preview part two. so if you didn’t get to pick one up yet now is your opportunity! i will mostly have pages from the new pop gun war on display and some for sale with some wrenchies pages and other things i have been working on if anyone is curious as to what i have been up to hidden away in st. johns.
there will also be a few copies of a special re-printing of the first pgw:chain letter preview part 1 i did last year.
please come to the show and i will draw in your book.
here is a page from the pop gun war chain letter preview

and here is a wrenchies page i did sort of recently

and here is an idea i had for a wrenchies poster or teeshirt:

that character’s name is mars and she is real good at throwing things.
i just sent out a bunch of copies of the pop gun war preview. so if you haven’t got yours yet and are starting to worry just give it a few more days. i am still taking orders for those. just click on the paypal button below if you want one.

here’s a little sketch i did someones’ book. i thought it was pretty cute so i scanned it and am displaying it for your potential amusement.

i am about to run to floating world comics in a few minutes.
there is a book release party there for my pal ryan alexander tanner tonight from 6-9. come on by if you are in the hood. here are the details:
WHO: William Ayers and Ryan Alexander-Tanner
WHAT: Book release and authors’ talk
WHEN: Sunday, May 23th, 6-9pm, authors’ talk 7-8pm
WHERE: Floating World Comics, 20 NW 5th Ave #101

i am having a first thursday show next month, june 3rd at floating world comics. i will be there from 6-9 signing copies of the pop gun war preview #2. and as a special thing for the show i am re-printing up a few copies of the first preview i did last year. i am only doing 50 copies of those and they will only be available at the show. so if you missed out on your chance to get the first one you have to come see me to get it now.
it is going to have the same cover image as the first printing but will be a letterpress instead of a silk screen. screen printing all those covers last time myself really beat me up. yeah, i am a wimp. but this way the people that bought the first edition will have a more collectible piece or something. i don’t know. that sounds good, right?
anyway, please come and i will draw in your book.
thanks to everyone who have bought the pop gun war previews. hopefully all the ones i have sent arrived safely to your mailboxes.

and finally, the above spider-man drawing is a panel from a 4-page spider-man and silver surfer story i just finished for strange tales. i am not sure when the story will be out but i will give you all a heads up when i find out. i am actually not sure if i am even supposed to be posting pages from that before it is printed but i figured i could get away with a panel or two. speaking of, all spider-man artwork copyright marvel comics enterprises and all the jazz.

here’s a not-so-great scan of a conan sketch i did for a pal of mine.

the conan pin up that i posted on here a few months back is going to be in a conan comic sonn along with a bunch of other pin ups by rad dudes. i will let you all i know once i find out when that is dropping.
and here’s an old silly sketchbook drawing i don’t believe i have posted before.

talk to y’all soon.

I sold a bunch of the new pop gun war: chain letter preview book and i received some good feedback on the way it came out. i think the book looks quite nice. it has a letterpress cover printed by local portland company, fortress letterpress.
it is a little hard to see in these pictures…

but the cover has a nice indention from the letter press, it is especially sharp with the sinclair drawing on the back. the book is limited to 250 copies, it’s 56 mostly black and white pages (8 are in color), and i’m selling the sucker for $15 plus shipping.

click on this paypal thing and it adds the shipping costs.
if you let me know in the paypal instructions i can do a little sketch and sign the inside.
or you can always email me if you want to send a check or money order type thing the old fashioned way.
a special thanks goes out to jason at floating world comics for holding my hand through this whole thing.
i’m sorry to everyone who i told i was going to the parties, events, and social engagements of the stumptown weekend. i just couldn’t hang. i hope no one is mad about it. i was so burnt and ready to be home by the end of the stumptown show i got a dang speeding ticket. my first one since being pulled over while driving scott mill’s jeep on the way to the first tcaf in 2003. i feel a little beat up from the adventure but i am trying to get the eye of the tiger.
so if you haven’t gone by grass hut to see the balls out art including the little painting i did, there is a closing party for the balls out show this friday the 30th from 5-8.
Grass Hut
811 EAST BURNSIDE #113
PORTLAND OR 97214
i will be there most likely along with some of the other artists. but if you can’t make it to the closing show, here’s my little painting:
if you want to buy it go here
hey, i just noticed that there was another painting in the show with “hollis” in title.
go here to see all the other cool paintings in the show.
the balls out closing party is also a closing party of sorts for the space itself as bwana spoons is moving the gallery to downtown, 5th and couch inside floating world comics. It will be smaller and a little more curated. should be awesome.
I heard a rumor that i might be having a show at floating world this summer. i’ll try to post about that when i find out more.
also this saturday is free comic book day.
i will be lurking around cosmic monkey for that and will have copies of the new pgw preview book on hand, not for free (sorry) but i will be sketching and signing and will give out a copy of my first comic, smith’s adventures, if anyone asks.
The opening of the new comic store, locust moon in Philadelphia was a lot of fun. thanks to chris and josh and all the other rad dudes i got to hang out with in beautiful university city.
they just put up the store logo and banner while i was there and i think it looks pretty cool. as mentioned in previous post i designed the store logos.
_
here’s me very seriously signing a book at the opening party.

-picture courtesy of the smashing Jason Rodriguez
i was camped out next to the snack table all night stuffing my face and drinking the glenlivet.
my pal mu wen pan made these absolutely amazing oragami locusts for the store. these are some pictures he took of the lucusts after he made them.
-
and here are some pictures of them hanging inside the store.
_
go check out the locust moon facebook page to find more about the place and see more pics and stuff.
thanks.
and i do believe i still have two wrenchies pages up at the stumptown art show in the performing art center.
and i still got those four smallish pieces up at the pony club gallery at least until the end of the month.
and if you haven’t made it over to the sequential art gallery this month hurry up and check my pal seamus heffernan’s art show.
he is a really good cartoonist. check out his website and this cool poster he made:

that’s it for now. thanks for reading this far.
here is the poster for that thing.

Hey gang,
this duck character makes a brief appearance in the wrenchies. i thought he was funny and worth sharing.
here are a couple of newsworthy announcements. in march i will be part of a panel at the public library association preconference. i am not entirely sure what that entails but i will post more closer to it.
In april i be in new york city for the mocca festival. i will most likely be standing behind the meathaus table doing some drawings for whomever and possibly be selling another limited edition zine type thing. i will post more about it when the date draws nearer. also that month i will be at portlands local show, stumtptown comics fest.
i was recently sent this link from newsarama
omega the unknown was chosen as one of the American Library Association’s Top Ten graphic novels for teens.
yay. i love the library. i visit my library in st. johns about two or three times a week.

tomorrow is new comics day and we got a good one coming out.
house of mystery #22
pal, esao andrews painted this excellent cover. i drew 6 of the interior pages. check it out at your local comics shop.
here is the info:
Written by Matthew Sturges; Art by Luca Rossi and Farel Dalrymple; Cover by Esao Andrews
Vertigo 32pg. Color $2.99 US Mature Readers
On Sale February 3, 2010
it was my first real experience working with vertigo. it was a fun project and everyone was super cool. i hope to do more stuff for them some day.
speaking of everyone being super cool, i just finished a ten page story for
papercutter, tugboat press’ excellent anthology. i am not sure exactly when that is coming out yet. i’ll pass along the details and maybe some preview art when i know for sure.
now here is some dorky sketchbook stuff.
view from a local coffee shop.

i used to really like that abbott and costello version of jack and the beanstalk

this one was inspired by the original prisoner which i was recently re-watching. that box set was one of the nicest gifts i have ever received.

Hello guys,
Jason over at floating world comics. let me know sort of recently that the next installment of pop gun war: chain letter is up on Arthur magazine’s site. Check it out and enjoy. In between working on wrenchies pages I will be coloring some of the pop gun war pages and putting up the next chapter real soon. the plan is to do another limited edition of part two. keep your eyes peeled for news about that.
this is another fun sandman commission I did recently for my pal rob. Thanks rob.

these ladies are called Zelda and Chantal, and they like spiders, like David Sedaris apparently does.
And here’s another one I did for a smashing chap named David (not Sedaris) in his sketchbook. Thanks David.

It was fun seeing all the other Calvin sketches in the sketchbook. I especially enjoyed the two by <lj user=" jimrugg ">. That guy is one of my favorites.
This weekend I will be in a group show in LA at exhibit a gallery.
If you are in the Los Angeles area this weekend please go check out the show.
The gallery is at
1086 SOUTH FAIRFAX AVE.
LOS ANGELES CA. 90019
And I think you are supposed to rsvp at the website or something but the opening is on Saturday, August 29th at 7pm
Here is the invitation:

Sadly I won’t be able to attend. But please let me know how it went if you go. I sent them three pieces, a triptych that I did for the gaming company, white wolf.
Here is a small version of one of them.

I am pretty excited to be part of the show. The gallery is co-owned by dogtown skateboard legend Tony Alva.
The theme of the show, “bipolar” has something to do with doing work people might not recognize as your own. I thought the sort of heavy metal vibe i tried to get in the white wolf pieces that bill.

I am still available for commissions please email me at fareldalrymple@yahoo.com for rates.
Thanks.
-farel
