bite your socks

smithmad
i am going to the mountain goats show in norman on sunday at the opolis. it is going to roooole. anyone in the oklahoma area should go. i’ll be in norman until the next weekend. going to try to catch a showing of sin city while i am down there. tulsa has the weirdest weather. it was the most amazingly perfect day outside yesterday. i rode my brother in law ‘s bike to one of those chain bookstore and sat in their cafe for hours destroying my stomach with coffee and stuffing my eyeballs with magazines. i got a bit of inking done too while i was there. i’m sure the people that work there hate me. which is sad for me because of course i have a crush on one of the coffee shop girls. right after i got home there was this insane storm outside. i hit mute on the music and listened to the rain and hail. good day.

  1. awesome! we had a daylight donuts chain where I grew up in Kansas. The made the best blueberry chip cake donuts I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a lot of donuts!

  2. Hey Farel, Pat Lewis here, from Pittsburgh.

As a former bookstore AND coffee shop employee, I can assure you that we didn’t hate people who sat around all day taking up space. Frankly, it’s one less table to wipe off. It’s not like we OWNED the place, you know? Just be sure to return the magazines to the rack when you’re done with ‘em.

  3. there are a lot of cool old signs like this littering north tulsa. i went on a photo safari recently and got a lot of good ones. i was thinking about putting a bunch on here. i love thinking of new ways to procrastinate.

  4. pat!!! excellent. i’m looking forward to reading your posts. i can keep abreast of all the goings ons in the pittsburgh comics scene. i worked at a coffee shop for 2 years. i hated most of the customers. i was a huge asshole too. ….was?

  5. I’m liking the Smith comic.

  6. do you realy use only a brush and no pen and nib?

  7. I just read your Hollis piece in Project Superior tonight. That’s a really great anthology. I like that you kept your colors to a minimal too. Wonderful.

  8. no, most of the stuff i post on here is just from my sketchbook. it is just done with with one of those micron pens. my comics are done with a brush except for the lettering which i do with a nib or microns.

  9. thanks

  10. thanks, i was assigned one of the one color sections. i did one other story like that before using half tones and stuff for another anthology. still waiting for that one to come out though.

  11. oh, lucky, i love the mountain goats…

we also had ‘weirdly perfect’ weather followed by a giant storm here the other day. very strange to think that in bristol, england, we are having similar weather to tulsa.

  12. brraap. that’s awesome. That donut sign is cool. Looks like they’ve tried to build landscape around it. I need a picture of the ‘Mister Hamburger’ sign in my hometown…it’s pretty wrecked.

  13. We are heading up to see the Mountain Goats on Mother’s day up in Boston. Should be excellent good times. The new record is very good, I like it better than ‘We Shall All Be Healed’, and it’s close in goodness to Tallahassee, or however the fuck you spell it. I’m hoping that he plays a little with a full band.

I need to start riding my bike again, winter took it out of me here. I was riding about 45 miles a week it was fun…then i got a flat and we had the third snowiest winter on record, the northeast is FUN.

  14. 45 miles a week is a lot…i ride to school and coffee…..and thats it, it never ever ever snows here in tucson anyway. wow 45 miles.

  15. As always, deleriously good stuff. You amaze me, Dalrymple…You honest-to-god do.

Do you do commissions? As soon as my co-writer and I finish the first 7 isues of HATE YOUR FRIENDS, we’re going to do a trade to go nationally (some time next year, probably…Perhaps as early as September if we stop slacking off) and it’d be pretty cool to have you do the cover.

I’ll, of course, send you issues 1-4 as soon as I have them in-hand (end of April) because I promised to do so when we met here in Freakin’ pittsburgh (I’m calling it that now: Freakin’ Pittsburgh). maybe you’ll like it enough to consider.

Again, good stuff. I look forward to seeing more.

  16. You ever hear of a band called Radon? They also do the song “Lying to You”. I assume they’re covering the Mountain Goats and not the other way around. Atom and his Package also plays it, and acknowledges the Mountain Goats as the source.

I’m will send you a CD.

  17. hey wow
