sorry if this takes a while to load.
this was an idea for some future sinclair story i did on the back of a page to the new pop gun war graphic novel coming out from dark horse, whenever i finish the damn thing.
here is a bit of news,
this weekend i am going to be at staple, a small press show in austin, texas, (Saturday, March 5, 2005, 10am – 6pm). i don’t have a table but i will be wandering the floor trying not to make eye contact with the people behind the tables selling stuff.
i’ll be going down with some dudes in a sketch group here in tulsa i met off meetup.com
-and-
the in store date for Project Superior is 3/9. Spread the word to all who might care! project superior is a comic anthology from chris (editor/publisher) pitzer’s ad house books.
-and-
i have recently heard news that i have a french publisher! i love france. excellent. i’ll post more info about that later.
now here’s some venting.
why would fox give a show like arrested development a chance, then after garnering several prestigious awards for it, scale back an apparently successful and quality show? they claim there is going to be a third season but just in case they are liars maybe we can give this a chance.

i went to a show by myself recently. it was pretty ok but a little difficult for me to enjoy because of all the fratboy joe jockstrap types that showed up to hear one song and call each other faggots. ahhh tulsa, why do you suck so hard? but i knew what i was getting into by going to a place that was crowded full of annoying high school kids. i’m not saying that all high school kids are obnoxious but most of them ARE obnoxious in groups.
i dug the band alright, but a little too jam band-ish live i think. that’s just my opinion. i like them so much more listening to them in the privacy of my own little space. king’s of leon is going to be playing at cain’s ballroom
here in tulsa on march 9th. i wouldn’t mind going but i need some sort of crew to roll with i think.
geeze, what a miserable old man i am. i am getting a little stressed. my 33rd birthday is coming up soon. yikes, i have quite a bit of proverbial irons in the fire these days. nothing i can really talk about yet, but if everything comes together it will mean i will finally be out of this seemingly perpetual impoverished state.
yesterday i was just thinking about how the word “blow” when used in the context of cocaine always reminds me of that old HBO original series “first and ten”. that show from what i remember was a raunchy dramatic comedy program about new players and old pro’s on a (fictional) professional football team. i remember the program starred oj simpson who was playing a character much like his real life persona but cheating on his wife and stuff, (this all was way before that murder trial).
chaio from the midwest.
This image makes me pretty excited.
Yes, Arrested Development is an awesome show. And yes, Fox is run by a bunch of retards that constantly cancel brilliant shows (Firefly, Wonderfalls, Get A Life, plus many more). Hopefully those DVD sales will help keep the show alive after it gets unceremoniously dumped for “Two Rich Whores That America Loves: Season 3″
Oh my god I forgot all about First and Ten. I used to watch that show along with Dream On when I first got HBO.
Back when it was all about the “brief nudity”.
Nice! How far off are you from getting it done, will it be out sometime this year?
Also KoL, great great live band. I’ve caught them 4 or 5 times over the past two years at festivals and gigs and they never disapoint. In fact I’m off to see them again on the UK tour in June later this year. One of those bands that you just know are worth the money and I can see myself booking anything they do for the foreseeable future.
well, that makes me pretty excited for new pop gun war.. hopefully i can find this new one easier, i have three comic book stores in my entire city and of those, one of them would have one copy of pop gun war.. it was crazy trying to find it.
you’re right about kids at shows, you know, even i find high school kids at shows annoying and i technically still am one (i’m in pre-university college.. long explanation of british school system goes here).. especially this one group of kids who always seem to show up when i least expect them, push down to the front and scream at any remotely attractive member of the band, or sometimes just scream for the hell of it.
if someone ever did that at my shows they would get a guitar upside their head.
fronch fries! fronch bread!
33 = congratulations, you’re older than jesus.
be sure to have a 33 &1/3 party!
i have to say, the more I read your journal, the more I really do love your drawings…. thanks for posting that!
wow…First and Ten…wonder if they have released it on DVD…havent even heard that name in years. when is your birthday, Farel? crap, ill just look at your user info.
(nice new work, by the way!!! can’t wait for the next popgun…)
I’ve asked for meathaus and popgun war a lot around here. I’ll renew the campaign when this next graphic novel comes out. WHOOOOOT! Is Emily forging that sword in a flame in the attic?!?!?? I <3 your creations, Farel. Beautiful and provocative whimsy.
On the topic of good but cancelled Fox shows, they cancelled Wonderfalls. Fortunately a friend of mine has the DVD of the first (and only) season.
thanks. who knows if i will ever do something with the idea in the future.
well with get a life as much as i liked that show i understand why it got dropped. very weird. zoo animals on wheels is one of the funniest things i have ever seen.
yes, and a lot of talk about doing coke. very scandalous to my young christian mind.
oi vey, don’t ask. i hope it can come out this year but who knows. i got a lot of pages to go still. i am a dirty slacker. -grumble-
yeah, i want to go to that kol show, even more now that you recommend them so highly. that first cd was really good. haven’t heard their new one yet. maybe i’ll drag my sister to the show with me and we can make fun of all the okies with the turned around baseball caps and pockets full of Rohypnol.
that is upsetting how much i hear about the inaccessibility of my book. i wish stores would take a chance and order more copies. at least it is available online at amazon.

the link i have on my site is now bogus seeing that the dark horse retailer doesn’t carry it anymore. i have to get some better distribution going.
i was terrified of high school kids while i was in high school. i ditched for weeks at a time so i wouldn’t have to deal. i finally wised up and dropped out after the tenth grade.
give those jerks a guitar upside the head for me. i’m too shy to throw down.
Re: fronch fries! fronch bread!
yeah, i am usaully the oldest dude i hang out with. and if you happen to believe jc was raised from the dead he would be like over 2,000 and something now.in order to have a 33 &1/3 party do i need to have it be 4 months after my birthday? or just watch that movie? or both? weird that you mention 33 &1/3. wasn’t the juice in that too?
gracias. sure thing. thanks for looking at it.
oh my god, don’t even joke about getting that on dvd. hopefully that’s not what you were implying. i am sure that show sucks now. in fact i remember not liking it very much when i watched it back in the day, but my television addicted teen self got sucked in.
nah, that was just supposed to be dust and maybe some remnants of whatever magic or science garbage the swords once possessed.
thanks for helping get the word out.
never saw wonderfalls. or even heard of it before. i’ll check it out. i haven’t owned a teevee for a while. the only way i get to watch arrested development is at a friend’s house or that first season on dvd.
Re: fronch fries! fronch bread!
oh yeah, and the title of your message is of course from better off dead. excellent!
click me!
in truth i am pretty much too shy to actually take them down. plus some of them are pretty fat, and i am scrawny, which doesn’t look too good for me.
i am pretty terrified of most people, but sometimes i have to be able to hold my own. when i was about 14 i nearly got my neck broken at a show because i got caught between a pillar and a large hardcore kid. so i learned to throw a mean punch and then run like the wind.
Speech! Speech!
That’s the first I heard about cutting back Arrested Development and I have to say I’m totally crushed. I haven’t watched it recently due to lack of a working TV, but that gives me more incentive to get the cable hooked up before the show goes. So sad…
Awesome drawing too. I’d like to see that if you do turn it into a story.

my 4 year old nephew punched me and gave me a fat lip today.
ha. i didn’t remember shannon tweed was on that. the eighties sure were lame.
Re: Speech! Speech!
gee after all that i was kind of hoping someone would make a speach.
thanks. i’d like to turn it into a story too. maybe in like 2 years when i’m finished with all the 10 ideas i want to do somehting with.
IMDb points to yes.
he was also the star in many a tv movie. one with elizabeth montgomery! the internet knows everything.
yes, 4 months after your birthday. save the date!
i don’t really know if there are requirements. my friend played LPs at his 33.3 party — oooh, 33 1/3 RPM!
i still regret not celebrating my 20th year, 7th month, and 27th day (only a little).
shut it with your potatos
